Certainly if they are authentic, they are unlistenable and have no input from the band. Many of the songs on the Hannett CDs sound identical to the released cuts, except for occasional crackles that suggest they were recorded from vinyl.

Truth, do you know if they are identical, or in what ways they differ? Fage, those covers are lovely. Where did you find the template to create them? If your URL is correct, you'll see an image preview here. Large images may take a few minutes to appear.

I wondered what it might take to compile an authoritative, complete Joy Division box set and think I've come up with an answer. Documenting all of the known studio recordings, interviews, demos, rehearsals, broadcasts and multitracks in circulation officially, on bootleg, or posted online , I started sorting by date to figure out how much stuff is out there, and what it might take to organize onto CD. This list is purely focused on studio recordings, to include radio and TV studios. Concert recordings are not factored in.

I've also left out timing for the Italian pressing of "Ice Age" as it does not appear online anywhere, not even Youtube, so I can't venture a guess. Ditto the Martin Hannett remix reportedly discovered a few years back -- it has not surfaced, so the duration is a mystery. Those exceptions aside, this is what remains: Eight CDs worth of some of the most astonishing music ever recorded. I'm figuring there's an 80 minute limit per CD, but the material tends to segment itself by recording session and period, so each disc would hypotethically run about 70 to 75 minutes.

I would love for something like this to be released. Reply with quote 2. I would leave out anything from 'In The Studio With Reply with quote 3. Not the multitrack, but yeah the "In the Studio" are rubbish.

Reply with quote 4. The outtakes, false starts, and interviews should probably be left for one or two discs at the end of the boxset. Fuckin' hallelujah! Reply with quote 5. Must have taken an awful lot of time and trouble to compile this list so well done FracturedMusic , it's a nice concept. The trouble would be its minimal interest value; I couldn't see a set like this shifting more than maybe copies.

Jesus, even I find the latter recordings hard work to plough through, and to call me a 'hardcore' JD fan is rather like saying Attila The Hun was 'impolite'. I'd just rather not be around them.

Reply with quote 6. Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it took a few hours of cross-referencing but was fun. To my mind, even a 2,copy pressing could be financially viable to the band, and would serve as a definitive document. Rhino Handmade has a great reputation for releasing box sets, including complete studio recordings for particular albums I believe The Stooges and The Monkees foremost among them. Rather than aiming for mainstream retail sales, they are produced on-demand which means low overhead for passionate audiences who really treasure every note.

Reply with quote 7. But I do remember I was happy to get it back then Reply with quote 8. Reply with quote 9. It should be fairly easy to assemble. There are two clips for the "What's On" appearance online, one of the intro and first half of the song, the other complete but inferior quality.

They can be spliced together with Garage Band, Audacity, or another free audio-editing program. One accidental omission from the list: the double-tracked vocal take of "LWTUA" from the music video. A profile of Ian Curtis, the enigmatic singer of Joy Division whose personal, professional, and romantic troubles led him to commit suicide at the age of Ian Curtis : Existence. Well, what does it matter?

He meets a girl named Debbie whom he promptly marries and his band, of which the name in the meantime has been changed to Joy Division, gets more and more successful.

Even though Debbie and he become parents, their relationship is going downhill rapidly and Ian starts an affair with Belgium Annik whom he met after one of the gigs and he's almost never at home.

Ian also suffers from epilepsy and has no-good medication for it. He doesn't know how to handle the feelings he has for Debbie and Annik and the pressure the popularity of Joy Division and the energy performing costs him. Rated R for language and brief sexuality. Did you know Edit. Thank you so much for posting.

I lost most of my post-punk collection when I was in a car accident they are at the bottom of a cliff and I have been slowly attempting to rebuild it. At least for now I will have the downloaded versions until I can re-purchase. Thank you. So, cheers! Hi fellas, Thank you so much for this wonderful article really!

If someone want to read more about that warehousing warsaw I think this is the right place for you! Found it! Thank you so much, your post is brilliant! Thank you! This link contains the self titled bootleg although it is not an official release it is available to buy on CD online at some retailers like amazon This contains the 4 track Warsaw demo and as far as I can tell the full aborted RCA album session I mention above.

All though many of these songs would later materialize as some of the Joy Division classics we know and love these versions are dramatically different. The sound quality of this recording is great and I am glad it has been released officially or not because although there was every chance this album may have been Joy Division's debut album had the RCA deal come to fruition I wonder if their career would have gone to the lofty heights it did or their legacy would be as powerful had it been their debut?
